My Picks: Jack McCullagh’s picks for the festival

Musician Jack McCullagh, frontman of Jack Dylan and the Villains, shares his top picks for Horizon 2025.

Jack Dylan and the Villains is the brainchild (and bold first outing) of Sunshine Coast-based musician Jack Dylan McCullagh. Formerly the guitarist for Melbourne’s post-punk powerhouse Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice, Jack made the move to Queensland in 2022 and hasn’t looked back.

His new project is stirring, nostalgic, and proudly rooted in the Australian experience – a sonic slice of Australiana, fronted by Jack himself alongside JD Evers, James Quinn, Harrison Biden, and Sam Markovic.

We asked Jack to give us the lowdown on the events that he’s most keen to catch at this year’s Horizon. Here’s what’s caught his eye.

OK Kenilworth

What a fantastic lineup, first of all! So many great acts to catch over the couple of days. Kenilworth is a beautiful little town, and I think it’s the perfect spot for the first OK Motels event outside of Victoria. It’ll be full of big music-community feels.

Mapleton Supper Club feat. Gabriella Cohen

Maybe one of the most beautiful pubs in the region. The food will be incredible, and Gabriella Cohen is a wonder of a performer.

C.W. Stoneking

Long-time fanboy of CW. An absolutely mesmerising artist.

BOH! Sub_Culture

I love everything Patricia and Basket of Hammers are about. Maybe something a little outside the box for most people – which is a good thing. It’ll be a beautiful experience.

Full Flower Moon Band

Rock ’n’ roll.

I’ve seen these guys in a few different incarnations over the years, but never as they are now. Huge sound. Kate is a frontwoman not to be missed.
