Social Muscle Club
Is there something you want to give? Is there anything you need?
Award-winning Gold Coast-based dance company, The Farm, have started a new club: Social Muscle Club – a space to meet new people and take part in a simple sharing game, where everyone unconditionally offers things they are willing to give away, while making requests for things they’d like to receive. These things can be concrete and practical, abstract, or relationship-focused – think fresh bread, tax return support, a tattoo, a holiday apartment in Costa Rica, a sofa, cash, or a shoulder to cry on. The giving and receiving is punctuated by performances, music, food and surprises.
But, what does this actually mean? And what does the show look like?
Essentially, Social Muscle Club combines intimate performances, live music, and cabaret with a social game in a big party atmosphere. There will be performance, lively conversation, and food.
Social Muscle Club is a worldwide phenomenon that originated in Berlin, and has been staged in cities such as Basel, Zagreb, Bristol, Marseilles, Cape Town and Vienna.
— Eva Wolfsberg, Vienna.
“My first SMC experience was a few years ago in Vienna. I simply found it fascinating how such a simple format can bring complete strangers together and give them the courage to start doing something by helping other people.”
