Raw, inclusive, and unapologetically bold, this poetry showcase transforms the Ramp stage at The Old Ambo into a pulsing hub of spoken word. Curated by Ben Hines (Humble Dumpling), some 15 diverse performers are brought together to ignite the mic with narrative splendour – from visceral truth-telling to lyrical flights of imagination.
Headliners include Devi Telfer, a Kaurna Narrungga writer and performer whose excerpts from her one-woman play SONG are described as “poetic”, “mesmerising”, and “honest”, and Ben Burns delivers finely tuned craft and mythological intimacy, fresh from a sell-out show and seasoned on international stages.
Add a bonus contingent of local Nambourean wordsmiths, and you’ve got an afternoon of rhythm, revelation, and rebellion. Prepare to be transformed – Namba Narrates will leave its words etched in your bones.
This event takes place in an intimate indoor theatre setting, creating a private and immersive experience. A paid bar will be available before and after the performance. Audience participation is encouraged, so come ready to engage with the words and energy of the showcase.
A heads up — photography and filming may take place during Horizon events for promotional use. If you’d prefer not to be in any of the shots, please chat to one of our Horizon staff on the day.
