It’s the last day of Horizon, so let's go out with a bang! Horizon Dance Hall is a free, all-day, all-ages, action-packed party of music and movement.
Bop till you drop at Hungerford Hall in Nambour as it transforms into a vibrant stomping ground of dance styles from all over the world. Welcome the day with Sunshine Coast’s First Creatives and strap in with host Nicky Wilkinson (Funny Coast Comedy) as she takes you on a rollicking ride through dance performances, demos, workshops and more.
Kick up your heels with the bootscooting Footloose Fun, then get hooked on Bollywood as you learn the style with Dance Masala. The day keeps giving more chances to get on the floor with raw, Ipswich-born hip-hop of Flood performed by GroveMindz, Afro-Brazilian samba with Tropicalia Studios, swing with RocknRollaBillys, and bush dance with Swag & Fiddle Bush Dance Band. And Sunshine Troupe will have you skipping and swerving to their pop-up dance session of country tunes.
To round out your dance card, Sydney’s Saddle Club invite you into their world of queer line dancing to fresh pop anthems, then close the night with their magic hour DJ set.
Food and markets will keep you pumping for the day. Second-hand clothes stalls may entice you to costume up in country style, while Devonshire teas and local flavours will keep you sated and hydrated. Don’t miss this ultimate all-in dance-a-thon!
The First Creatives is a Magandjin-based, First Nations-led creative company committed to passing down cultural and contemporary practices to the next generation. By bringing together artists, Elders and community, they spark connection through workshops, projects, performances and classes that share traditional stories, lived experiences and creative skills. Their work builds safe, inclusive spaces where culture thrives and healing flows through the power of expression.
Claire Harris founded Footloose Fun after a 46,000km charity bootscooting road trip, discovering line dancing’s power to unite communities in a fun, upbeat and inclusive way. Now she’s bringing that same energy to Horizon Festival – teaching everyone to grapevine, laugh and connect no matter their experience level (including those who claim to have two left feet!).
Nobody does Bollywood better than Dance Masala, the reigning title holders of the National Telstra Bollywood Dance Championship. In Nakhre style, this crew will bring hard-hitting beats, lively dance scenes and sumptuous drama straight from Bollywood to Horizon Dance Hall! Here you’ll learn the true meaning of Nakhre – an attitude and vibe of strength and power – so you’ll be ready to take over the dance floor alongside the Masala dancers.
Swag & Fiddle Bush Dance Band bring the timeless joy of Australian bush dancing to life! With roots in traditional tunes from Europe, including Ireland and Russia, they make this energetic, social dance easy and fun for all ages. No experience needed – just jump in and discover an old-school community spirit that the band warn can be a little bit addictive!
Born from a spontaneous flash-mob at a circus festival, Common People Dance Project has grown into an international phenomenon, touring fringe, music and circus festivals worldwide. Led by founder Neridah Waters, people of all ages and abilities unite through playful choreography and infectious energy. Want in? Join the workshop, learn the routine, then hit the stage in costume at Horizon Dance Hall!
Get ready for colour, energy and pure joy as Sunshine Troupe takes the stage at Horizon Dance Hall! This inclusive performing arts ensemble brings together artists of all abilities to create vibrant, high-energy performances that celebrate creativity and belonging. Blending dance, theatre and storytelling, the troupe will captivate crowds with dynamic movement and infectious enthusiasm for everyone to join in on the floor.
The RocknRollaBillys are a retro-rockabilly trio bringing the best of the ’50s and ’60s to life. With vintage instruments, slick costumes and infectious energy, they’ll have you swinging, jiving and rocking through classic hits – all with their signature cheeky twist. Learn all the actions from the rock ’n’ roll dancers performing with the band.
Tropicalia dance company brings the spirit of Brazil to the Sunshine Coast, celebrating the rich cultural diversity and infectious energy of the country through movement and music. Performances showcase a colourful mix of Brazilian rhythms, from the world-famous samba of Rio Carnival to powerful Afro-Brazilian dances from the north-east, as well as popular styles like Axé that get audiences smiling and hips swinging.
Flood is a dance style born from Ipswich’s floodplains, shaped by the 2011 floods and suburban grit. Blending street dance, gaming culture and raw Australian aesthetics, GroveMindz demo their distorted, visceral movement to an original soundscape by Maxwell “Thv Flood” Douglas – a journey from chaos to theatrical elegance.
Saddle Club brings queer line dancing from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast! Stomp it out to pop anthems as traditional steps meet fresh beats. Inspired by Stud Country in the US, it’s all about joy, movement and community – feeling silly, sexy, and getting out of your head into your body. The trio will then hit the decks, rounding out the dancing day with a high-energy disco hour – goodbye to another Horizon Festival.
Join the Common People Dance Workshop to learn a big joyful group dance and perform on stage.
