we’re changing our festival dates

This morning, as the sun rises, we announce new dates for the next Horizon Festival: 2–11 May 2025.

After delivering the event in August–September since 2016, the festival will move to May.

Many of you won’t bat an eyelid over this news, but, for those curious, here are the reasons why:

Firstly: there are fewer festivals in May. This means less date clashes and a more dispersed arts-calendar for the region. Win, win.

Secondly: festivals across the globe are feeling the financial pinch right now. It’s no secret. They are closing, pausing, and seeking renewal. We too are feeling the impacts, so we’re taking the time to develop a more sustainable festival model.

Thirdly: there’s been some exciting work going on behind the scenes with a renewed strategy, a new team, and a growing momentum. These things take time to implement, so we’re taking the time do it properly. For the sake of the festival, our audiences, and our artists.

And finally: there will be a public holiday on the new opening weekend, which allows more people to come along and enjoy the festival. It’s as simple as that.

See you on the horizon, soon.
