The Bunker Collective showcases the best local and global spoken word talent, taking the stage to have their say and share stories spanning the personal and political through powerful lyrical flow.
The Bunker Series is a collaboration between Peripheral Arts and Writers Republic, who will again be hosting a signature series of events including workshop opportunities, competitive heats and guest performances all leading up to The Bunker Grand Final to be held on Sat 31 Aug at The Imperial Hotel, Eumundi. Whether you come along as a performer, a workshop participant or as a member of the audience, this series is guaranteed to ignite a love of stories and blow you away with the power of performance.
HEAT ONE // Monday 26th August
Competition heats are open to aspiring writers and performers of all levels of experience and will also feature guest performances from some of the most exciting touring performers in the genre. The Guest artist for Heat One is Loki Liddle, from Alternator Poetry Gold Coast.
HEAT TWO // Wednesday 28th August
This heat is designed for writers and performers from ages 15+. Featuring a guest performance by 2018 Bunker winner, Huda Fadlelmawla, expect a night of raw emotion, clever word play, slam poetry and unique stories. Top 5 will win a spot in the grand final.
GRAND FINAL // Saturday 31st August
The Bunker Series all culminates into this afternoon of energy and emotion. Finalists will perform in front of a live audience and a panel of three judges. This year’s feature performer at the Bunker Finale is Melanie Mununggurr-Williams, 2018 Australian Poetry Slam Champion. Whether you are new to spoken word or a die-hard fan, the raw power of these performances is guaranteed to stay with you forever.
SPOKEN WORD FOR BEGINNERS // Saturday 17th August
Run by Robin Archbold from Sunshine Coast Spoken Word and Nycole Prowse from The Bunker, this workshop is an introduction to spoken word, designed for those who are new to the craft.
SPOKEN WORD MASTERCLASS // Thursday 29th August
This intimate workshop is open to all wordsmiths and performers, offering the unique opportunity to master their craft and learn from 2018 Australian Poetry Slam Champion, Melanie Mununggurr-Williams. Australian Poetry Slam Champion, Melanie Mununggurr-Willams will you through the tough times, the joys and the big changes; asking you to explore emotion through your senses. Craft poems, stories, monologues and messages with power as Melanie challenges your writing techniques and pushing your abstract concepts into concrete imagery.
