Artist Profile Workshop with Jody Haines

A well-crafted artist biography is an important piece of any artist’s toolkit. A bio should be memorable, meaningful, succinct and uniquely tell the story of you. 

The Sunshine Coast Council through ArtsCoast and Horizon Festival are offering 12 artists and arts workers the invaluable opportunity to join critically acclaimed artist Jody Haines for a weekend of self-reflection and creation.

Through Jody’s collaborative and relational practice, this two-day workshop will see you:

  • Explore visual language and its influence on how people perceive and understand you as an artist; 

  • Craft and record your story in both written and audio form; and

  • Create an artist profile – bio and headshot for arts submissions and marketing purposes.

Jody Haines is a photo media artist based in Melbourne, Victoria.

Through a collaborative and relational practice, Jody’s work explores how visual language can be applied through video and photography to deconstruct ideas of gender and race within the Australian context.

Jody has exhibited widely including Gertrude Street Projection Festival 2017, Ballarat International Foto Biennale 2017 and Sydney Festival 2018 as part of Tell: Contemporary Indigenous Photography. In 2017 Jody won the Emerging Artist Award for Immerse Public Arts Festival and most recently Jody was commissioned to create a projection work for Women of the Commonwealth 2018 (WOW) and Festival 2018, Commonwealth Games Gold Coast.   

Jody will be a featured artist at Horizon Festival 2019 with a new work, Our People – Our Place, a large-scale public artwork that combines portraiture, projection and sound to show the many faces and personal stories that make up our diverse Sunshine Coast community.
