The Regional Gallery of the Sunshine Coast presents a dynamic exhibition program featuring leading national and local artists, complemented by immersive public programs, educational programs, tours, and events.
The Gallery Store highlights regional and national artisans, with a focus on local, hand-crafted items and a curated Pop-Up Feature Artisan program with every exhibition.
The national acquisitive Sunshine Coast Art Prize is a dynamic visual arts award reflecting outstanding contemporary 2D and new media arts practice in Australia. Now in its eighteenth year, the exhibition presents remarkable finalist works by artists from across the country.
The artwork awarded with the Major Prize will be acquired into the Sunshine Coast Art Collection. A People’s Choice prize is also decided by way of public vote by exhibition visitors.
The forty artworks selected as finalists will be exhibited at the Caloundra Regional Gallery from 18 August until 15 October 2023.
The winners’ announcement will be held on Thursday 12 October, 6-8pm.

Workshops
Painting realistic landscapes in oils with Yannick Blattner

- About: Sunshine Coast Art Prize finalist, Yannick Blattner is facilitating a workshop which will teach the essentials of painting landscapes in oils. Participants will be guided through the fundamentals such as underpainting, considering natural lighting, accurate colour mixing, and building a composition. As well as be supported to develop their own work and learn technical skills such as atmospheric effects, capturing details in nature, and creating depth. Suitable for intermediate skill level. Please bring your own lunch. Complimentary tea/coffee will be provided. More WEB info: Participants will be introduced to the techniques and approaches used in realism, such as meticulous detailing, smooth blending, and achieving a high level of accuracy in their paintings. BIO: Yannick Blattner graduated a Bachelor of Fine Art with Honours (First Class) from the Queensland University of Technology (2014). In 2022 he was awarded second prize at Redland Art Awards, and Runner Up at the National Emerging Art Prize, 2022. Blattner has also been a finalist in the Still Prize (2021), Churchie National Emerging Art prize (2015) and the Gold Coast art Prize (2015). His solo exhibitions include: Thrust, Walls Artspace (2017); Contrived Circumstances Spiro Grace Art Rooms (SGAR) (2016); and Heatwave, Zeppelin Projects (2015). In 2017 Blattner was the Museum of Brisbane artist in residence, which resulted in his solo exhibition Stay till the sun sets (2017).

The Art of Connection with Amanda Shadforth

- About: Take a deep dive into The Art of Connection. Personal artefacts and memories are interwoven throughout our life. Amanda Shadforth’s fine art focuses on still life vignettes of personal artefacts and heirlooms. Join a Amanda on a Friday evening for an immersive experience and insight into building our own still life vignette, share precious memories over a glass of wine and come away with your own still life creation. Throughout the workshop Amanda will share insights into her method and the thought process behind collecting the specific props used and their unique stories. She will then share her secrets behind the building and arranging of the still life vignettes, and how to photograph these in preparation for sketching your own still life. Please bring along one sentimental artefact to be included in your still life set up and bring along a iPhone/phone to capture your creation. All other materials will be supplied. Light refreshments and nibbles will be provided. Extra info for Web: Bio: Amanda Shadforth is an accomplished painter and fine artist. Working in the medium of oil on canvas, she creates still-life studies of the commonplace told through a distinct lens. Shadforth plays with the notion of purpose and repurpose to paint tableaux in striking photorealism. Subconscious arrangements that offer objectivity and establish harmony without human intervention. Shadforth strips objects of their original function and assigns a new raison d’etre in her intimate examinations of the everyday. For a decade, Shadforth refined her curatorial eye documenting the world of fashion, both as a creative director and photographer. Shadforths return to painting signifies the resumption of a career in the fine arts, which has been met with acclaim.
